Lawrence University junior, Isabel Dorn, has stepped into the role of president of the Lawrence University Community Council (LUCC) with a clear vision and determination. Dorn, who has been actively involved in student leadership since her first year on campus, is focused on making LUCC a supportive platform for students and a space for practical problem-solving.

In her own words, Dorn expressed, "I want LUCC to be a source of support for students and a forum for hands-on problem-solving." She recognizes the importance of actively engaging with student feedback and working collaboratively to implement effective reforms. Dorn emphasized, "Being president isn't just a ceremonial duty; you have to gather student feedback, synthesize these ideas into a practical plan, and collaborate to find the resources needed to implement these reforms."

Dorn's commitment extends beyond traditional duties as she aims to create a more inclusive and connected Lawrence community through LUCC. She highlighted the significance of uniting various student groups, stating, "Bringing these groups together is crucial to building a cohesive Lawrence community and fostering collaborative solutions, especially on such a small campus."

Moreover, Dorn, who is actively involved in diversity, equity, and inclusion advocacy, acknowledges the importance of her position as a woman of color in leadership. She remarked, "Holding the LUCC presidency as a woman of color is a rare honor that I do not take lightly." Dorn hopes to inspire individuals from marginalized backgrounds to pursue leadership roles and empower people of color through tangible actions.

As she looks ahead to her future beyond Lawrence University, Dorn plans to continue her advocacy work by pursuing a career in law with a focus on public interest. Her dedication to creating positive change and promoting equity and inclusion is evident in her past experiences and current role as president of LUCC.
